The West Ridge Middle School Multipurpose Gym was designed to expand the school’s athletic and activity spaces with a flexible facility that supports physical education, student programs, performances, special events, and community functions. Designed to complement the existing middle school campus, the new gymnasium provides a versatile environment that can adapt to a variety of educational, athletic, and extracurricular needs.
At the center of the facility is a new half-court gymnasium featuring durable rubber athletic flooring, motorized basketball goals, and supporting athletic equipment. An integrated stage allows the gym to transition from athletics and physical education to assemblies, performances, presentations, and other school events. A concession area further supports tournaments, activities, and larger gatherings, making the facility a valuable addition for both day-to-day school use and special events.
One of the gym’s defining architectural features is its use of large windows that follow the pitch of the building. The expansive glazing brings abundant natural light into the gymnasium while creating a distinctive exterior element and a strong connection between the interior and surrounding campus.
The exterior design was carefully developed to complement the materials, scale, and character of the existing West Ridge Middle School buildings. By incorporating materials that relate to the established campus architecture, the new multipurpose gym feels like a natural extension of the school while maintaining an identity of its own.
Through thoughtful planning and flexible design, the West Ridge Middle School Multipurpose Gym brings athletics, performance, student activities, and community gathering together within one functional space. The result is a durable and adaptable educational facility designed to support students, staff, and the surrounding community for years to come.
